Peek the world's second largest traditional Market

After the famous Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, La Nueva Viga in Mexico City is the second largest fish market in the world.

Three young men were raising fish amid the morning atmosphere of the La Nueva Viga market.
But unlike the Tsukiji market, and other markets such as the Sydney Fish Market, La Nueva Viga has located hundreds of kilometers from the shoreline.
This fish market is the largest in Latin America and is located in Iztapalapa, which is in the Mexican capital.

A row of trucks comes every day from the coast to Mexico City, carrying fish, shellfish, octopus and fresh sharks.
On average around 700 to 1500 tons of marine products are sold every day to thousands of visitors who have successfully captured this market.
Lupita Hernandez lives in Alvarado, Veracruz, which is 400 kilometers east of the Mexican coast.

His family holds fresh fish from Tabasco, Veracruz, Campeche, and Matamoros for sale at La Nueva Viga.
Lupita estimates that they sell 1000 kilograms of seafood in the La Nueva Viga market every day.
"Sharks, tilapia, octopus, shrimp, and all types of fish," he said.

These products are sold to a number of restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and the general public.
"I like it, it's more because this business started from my father, I love this job, really love," said Lupita.
His father had sold seafood at La Nueva Viga Market and in another older market, La Viga Market, for 40 years.
According to the Mexican Fisheries and Aquaculture Products Promotion Board, Competa, the market sells more than 500 marine species.
Eighty percent of the products sold are still fresh, the majority are from the Gulf of Mexico, while the other 20% is imported in frozen conditions from a number of countries such as China, the United States, Vietnam, and Chile. Compete also said La Nueva Viga Market sells 65% of national marine production.
