Almost everyone must have heard the name Atlantis, which according to the myth of the city disappeared on the seabed in just one day and night and until now is still a mystery about its existence. Similar to the mysterious Atlantis story, it turns out that in this world there really are cities that are located under the sea. This underwater city has been established for hundreds of thousands of years.
Of course initially these cities were located on land like cities in general. because of an incident these cities finally disappeared into the water. Some are used as underwater tours. Local and foreign tourists can visit this city by diving or seeing it from a boat. There are also used as ancient sites protected by UNESCO.
1. Dwarka - India
Ruins were found 40 meters below the sea off the coast of Dwarka City, India by archaeologists in 2000. According to legend, Dwarka is the home city of Lord Krishna, as narrated by Mahabarata, said Sri Krishna is king in Dwarka.
2. Lion City - China
Initially this ancient city was considered merely a myth. But in fact, the mysterious ancient city known as Lion City really exists. Lion City was discovered in 2001 by archaeologists under the waters of Qiandao Lake, China at a depth of 26 and 40 meters below sea level. The ancient Lion City monument was built more than 1,300 years ago, but some stone carvings are still in intact condition.
3. Yonaguni Jima Pyramid - Japan
Yonaguni Pyramid sank off the coast of Yonaguni Island, Japan. The sinking of the Yonaguni Pyramid is controversial. Divers discovered the pyramid with this staircase in 1986. Since then, some scientists have called it rock formation. In contrast to Masaaki Kimura, a seismology professor believes that the site was built in 2000-3,000 years ago, long before Japanese civilization became known. This pyramid design is almost the same as that found in Mexico and Central America.
4. Port Royal - Jamaica
Formerly a city located on the outskirts of Kingston Harbor is famous as a pirate headquarters. Most of Port Royal sank in the Caribbean because the earthquake in 1692 was followed by a tsunami which killed 2,000 people. Because of the disaster, Port Royal finally collapsed and sank to the bottom of the ocean.
The city of Port Royal was discovered in 1518. Modern archaeologists have discovered that there are still many parts of the city, such as pirate bars, docks and ships that still exist and are maintained by Kingston Harbor.
5. Pavlopetri - Greece
This ancient city under the sea, Pavlopetri located in Greece is estimated to be 5000 years old. Despite sinking, the city is still a little intact. Pavlopetri or stone Peter is a modern name for the bay where submerged ruins. The ruins were discovered in 1967 and are still quite complete, including streets and graves that can still be seen.
Unfortunately, Pavlopetri under the Laconia Sea is threatened with extinction. This was caused by the number of ignorant tourists who took the debris to take home. For this reason, UNESCO protected this city and made it an ancient protected site.
